Privacy Policy

Last updated 21 August 2026.

This describes exactly what Life OS stores, where it is kept, and what happens to data it receives from Google. It is written to be checked against the software rather than to sound reassuring — if something here does not match what the app does, the policy is the thing that is wrong, and I want to know about it.

Who runs Life OS

Life OS is built and operated by Zander van der Berg, based in South Africa. For any privacy question, to ask for your data, or to have your account deleted, email zander.vanderberg1@gmail.com.

Signing in

Life OS uses Firebase Authentication with Google as the only sign-in method. When you sign in, Life OS receives your name, email address, profile photo URL and a Google account identifier.

Life OS never sees, receives or stores your Google password. Signing in does not give Life OS access to your calendar — that is a separate permission you grant later, or never.

What Life OS stores

Everything you create lives in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway, in a workspace belonging to your account. That includes:

Google Calendar

Connecting Google Calendar is optional. Life OS works without it, and you can disconnect at any time from Settings → Integrations.

What Life OS asks for

What Life OS stores from your calendar

This is the part most policies are vague about, so plainly: Life OS keeps a copy of your calendar events in its own database. It does not fetch them from Google each time you look. That copy includes the event's title, description, location, start and end times, recurrence rule, status, and the email addresses and names of people invited.

It is kept so the calendar loads instantly, works when Google is slow, and so Life OS can tell you when something clashes. Google notifies Life OS when something changes, and the copy is updated.

Writing to your calendar

Life OS only creates, changes or deletes a Google event when you explicitly confirm that specific change on screen first. Nothing is written to your calendar in the background.

Your Google tokens

The tokens that let Life OS reach your calendar are encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM) and never leave the server. They are not sent to your browser.

Disconnecting

Disconnecting removes Life OS's copy of your Google events and ends the connection. Your actual Google Calendar is not changed, and your Life OS tasks, diary, library and habits are untouched.

Limited Use. Life OS's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

What Life OS does not do

What is kept on your device

Life OS stores almost nothing locally. Specifically:

Your tasks, diary entries, habits and calendar are not written to your device. That is why Life OS needs a connection to work, and it is also why nothing of yours can be read off a lost or stolen laptop.

Life OS does not use cookies. Requests to the Life OS API are authenticated with a short-lived token sent in a request header.

Who else is involved

Life OS runs on services that necessarily handle your data in order to operate it:

These are infrastructure providers, not partners with whom your data is shared for their own purposes. There is no one else.

Logs

The server keeps operational logs to diagnose failures. Credentials, tokens and your written content are deliberately stripped out before anything is logged. Logs are not used to build any profile of you.

Keeping your data separate

Each account gets its own workspace. Every request is checked against the identity in your sign-in token, and a request for a workspace you are not a member of is refused. No account can see another account's data.

Your choices

Getting a copy of your data

A self-service export is not built yet. Until it is, email me and I will produce your data by hand.

Deleting your account

There is no self-service delete yet. Email me and I will delete your account, your workspace, everything in it, and any Google connection. I will confirm when it is done.

Withdrawing calendar access

Disconnect from Settings → Integrations at any time. You can also revoke access directly at your Google account permissions page.

How long data is kept

Your content is kept until you delete it or ask for your account to be removed. Google calendar copies are removed when you disconnect.

Children

Life OS is not intended for children under 13 and is not directed at them.

Changes to this policy

If what Life OS does with your data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Material changes will be mentioned in the app.
